An archaeological dig gifted to the city of New Orleans by the unfortunate calamity of a neglected two century old French Quarter building collapsing onto prestigious Royal Street, leaves a treasure trove of artifacts from the time of New Orleans’ inception. However, more than just artifacts are unearthed. Archaeologist, Dr. Gary Reinhardt, unleashes a terror on the city after reanimating the Carter Brothers, early 19th century New Orleans vampires, from bone and ash discovered at the dig by his UNO students.
The two vampires, having been essentially transported into the future, flail like fish out of water before eventually trying to reinvent themselves. Memories of Wayne Carter’s once intense love affair with infamous Storyville madame, Josie Arlington, leave him tormented and lost in a city where his lover has been dead for almost 100 years. Follow the Carter Brothers from modern day New Orleans, at the time of their reanimation, back to the early 1900s, to a city that was born to be bad. While the characters navigate through historical events they learn to understand the perils of the undead as they struggle to survive in a world of mortals.
Return to modern day New Orleans and cast a vote in the battle between vampires who respect mortal life and those who aim to control the world as a superior force. Vampires, who had until now successfully lived among mortals without incident, are forced out of the shadows to manage what could turn into a blood bath. In a fight to understand the Carter Brothers reanimation, while keeping their secrets hidden, vampires with two very different belief systems struggle to manage a hierarchy and avoid an uprising for a new political system that has them at odds.
Through melding the history of New Orleans with fiction of dangerous creatures, readers will find themselves suspended between fantasy and reality.
